Richard Gere’s latest movie role is already stirring up controversy before the film has even reached audiences. The 76-year-old actor is currently shooting the romantic drama Asymmetry in New York alongside 28-year-old Diana Silvers.
Gere plays Ezra, a celebrated writer whose life becomes entangled with his much younger assistant, Alice, portrayed by Silvers. Despite their 48-year age difference, the characters begin a secret relationship that becomes one of the film’s central storylines.
Fresh photos from the set have now offered a glimpse of their on-screen romance. Gere and Silvers were photographed sitting closely together on a sunlit park bench while eating ice cream, appearing relaxed and affectionate as they filmed the date scene.
The images quickly divided viewers online. Some criticized the enormous age gap between the actors and argued that Gere was too old for this kind of romantic role, while others described the pairing as uncomfortable or strange to watch.
The storyline isn’t an original creation for the movie. Asymmetry is based on Lisa Halliday’s 2018 novel, with the relationship between the older writer and younger woman forming an important part of the story.
