In this veterinary clinic, the unwritten rules are rudely violated and all kittens are saved

Euthanasia,  is cheaper than nursing a small animal. And it’s not just about money costs – there is a human resource that is not endless. And there are harsh laws of nature, which say that the strongest ones survive on the cost of the life of the weaks. American veterinary clinics have developed a rule on this subject to save the tiny kittens.

Officially, this rule does not exist, but in reality there is an unwritten one. The “2 pound rule”, which is only applied to kittens, due to their anatomy. If a kitten in a shelter weighs less than 2 pounds, about 1 kg, then it is much more likely to be euthanized than  to be taken care of. Quick and easy death and freeing up resources to help other animals. Because less than 1 kg is either too small, or already grown, but painful. A stupid risk, however.

Veterinary clinics and animal shelters adhere to the £ 2 rule, but there is one institution in Los Angeles where the rules are always cynically violated. Frankly speaking, they accept and take care of absolutely all kittens that are not doomed to die in infancy. They look after them all day long, feed and wash very often, warm them up and even change the batteries in a special toy. A mechanism imitates the heartbeat and breathing of a mother cat to make the little creatures feel more comfortable.

When the kittens grow up and the rule stops working for them, the animals are transferred to ordinary shelters. Because there is an established system, with the help of which it is easier and faster to find owners for the cuties. And here, in a compassionate clinic, kittens are only nursed, on a voluntary basis. Here is such a division of labor – it is simply impossible to do good for everyone, but you can and should focus on what you do best.
