A Man Crawled Under the Sidewalk to Rescue Six Kittens and Give Them a Chance For a Better Life

Five weeks ago animal rights activists at Catsnip Etc which is based in Elkhart, Indiana were informed of a group of kittens who were sitting in a pit under the roadway.

The terrain is unsafe for kids and it was necessary to save them the sooner the better. The volunteers Paige, Karl and Helen went there with all the necessary tools. “They called us and said that the kittens are waiting for help and so we set out with the necessary tool which are: poles, duct tape, net and flashlights,” the rescuers tells.

The hole was so small that it was necessary to widen it with a shovel in order to see the kittens well. After locating the brood, they saw six fluffy crumbs who were huddled together in an extremely inaccessible place.

They tried to lure the kittens out by playing a video of a cat mother calling her children but the six furry creatures didn’t move. It was then that Karl got the idea to crawl under the roadway and get the kittens one by one.

The man crawled into the hole head first lying on his back. Acting very carefully he was able to get to the kittens and transfer them to the other volunteers.

When the sixth kitten was safely rescued, Karl got out and he was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. He was exhausted but extremely happy that the six cuties were safe and sound.

Karl is a hero because he climbed into such a narrow gap to reach and save the cuties,” the rescuers say. “The kittens turned out to be very grimy and they were all covered in fleas.”

Using a humane trap people managed to catch a wild mother cat and help her too.

We took them on overexposure after the rescue. Finding themselves in the home comfort they were terribly frightened at first but then the kittens began to show some favor to their guardians.  They quickly realized that there was a lot of food here and everything was at their disposal and that it was wonderful to sleep on soft blankets.

After a few days, they became so brave that they allowed the people to wash them and even stroke them a little.

They finally became bolder and calmer with people. And after some time they allowed themselves to be washed and to clean out all fleas from their bodies,” the rescuers share.

The mother cat was spayed and vaccinated. When she is ready she will move to her new home but for now she will stay in a cozy barn with lots of food and personal space and they will take care of her for the rest of her days.

The kittens still have to grow and learn a lot. They become more and more confident and playful day by day and their characters are being formed as well.
