Penn Badgley, the actor best known for playing Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl, recently opened up about his past romance with Blake Lively, his co-star on the hit show.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Penn explained how intense the experience of filming a big series can be. “When you’re on set all the time, it feels like you’re living in that world,” he said. “You start thinking you need to prove yourself constantly, even if no one is actually asking you to.”
Penn also shared how much the character of Dan affected his personal life. “People don’t see you as you,” he said. “They call you by your character’s name on the street.” He admitted that when he was younger, it was tough to separate who he really was from who he played on TV, especially when fans treated him like his character.
Even though his relationship with Blake ended in 2010, and the show continued until 2012, Penn said they were always professional. “We had already broken up for almost half the time we worked together,” he explained. “But it was never weird or uncomfortable. We kept things respectful.”
Penn has moved on since his Gossip Girl days. He is now happily married to Domino Kirke. They are raising their son James and are currently expecting twins. Blake Lively, on her side, is continuing her acting career and is a mom of four with actor Ryan Reynolds.
Fame can be tricky, especially when your on-screen character becomes more famous than you. But it’s clear that Penn has found peace and balance in his life now.
