Blake Lively secured a major courtroom triumph in her ongoing case against Justin Baldoni, her co-star and director on *It Ends with Us*.
On August 8, the federal judge overseeing the case granted Lively’s request to strike her testimony from the public record.
Last week, Lively took part in a deposition at her attorney’s office in New York. Lawyers for Baldoni questioned her about allegations of sexual harassment she had made against him in her federal lawsuit, as well as claims that he launched a defamatory campaign against her. Baldoni was reportedly present during the questioning.
Lively’s legal team accused Baldoni’s lawyers of releasing her deposition publicly without any valid legal reason.
Judge Lewis J. Liman sided with Lively, ruling: “Wayfarer plaintiffs’ submission served no proper litigation purpose and instead appears aimed at making life more difficult for Lively (and, by extension, the Court) and at provoking public speculation and scandal.”
He further added that “the parties did not even attempt to show that the statements were relevant to the case — and they could not have done so.”
