Goldie Hawn has shared an emotional farewell to Dolly Parton following the country legend’s death on August 25, 2026. Parton died at 80 after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Medical Center in Nashville.
The singer behind Jolene and I Will Always Love You inspired generations of performers, and numerous stars paid tribute following her death. Among them was 80-year-old Oscar winner Goldie Hawn, who chose an especially personal memory.

Hawn posted a rare throwback photo taken on the very first day she met Parton. “That was the day I first saw Dolly. She was like a ray of light! Even then she shone like an angel — a joyful, heavenly creature,” the actress recalled.

She described Parton as a “blessing to all of us for generations to come,” adding: “Rest in peace, dear Angel, and, as you yourself said, may the angels continue making music and singing in heaven.”
A year before her death, Parton announced she was stepping away from work to “slow down” and focus on her health. She kept details of her diagnosis private during her final weeks while undergoing treatment.

Beyond her legendary music career, Parton donated millions to causes including children’s literacy, COVID-19 vaccine development and other social projects. In accordance with her wishes, her farewell ceremony will be private and limited to close family.
