The Hollywood star disclosed one of the basic but important reasons his marriage to Calista Flockhart has remained strong over the years.

In a candid conversation on the show Wild Card with Rachel Martin, the 82-year-old actor reflected on the lessons he has learned about love after 15 years of marriage. “Even old people can love. You think about falling in love as something that belongs to youth, but the real challenge is staying in love — holding on, taking care, and not destroying everything. That’s what really matters,” Ford explained.

With a smile, Ford responded to a question about his years with Flockhart by saying: “If you ask me, I’d say forever. My first marriage was at 23, which really shouldn’t be allowed.” Ford was first married to Mary Marquardt, a union that ended in 1979, and later to screenwriter Melissa Mathison from 1983 until their divorce in 2004. He wed Flockhart in 2010.

Speaking warmly about his current marriage, Ford emphasized that romance is not limited by age. “The romantic part is one of the most exciting and fulfilling types of love. I think it’s possible at every stage of life. I wasn’t surprised I fell in love, and I wasn’t surprised I stayed in love,” he said.
