Janet Jackson’s personal life has always fascinated the public, not just because of her famous family, but also due to her choice to remain silent about the many rumors surrounding her concerts.
In 1984, the singer married musician James DeBarge, but by 1985, they were divorced.
After their split, rumors surfaced claiming that Janet had given birth during their marriage, which she chose to keep secret due to her young age—she was just over 18 at the time.
However, in a new documentary by Lifetime and A&E, Jackson has decided to clarify the truth behind these rumors.
She explained that she gained weight due to taking birth control pills, which led many to assume she was pregnant.
Janet firmly denied the speculation that she had a child and given the baby to her sister Rebbie or brother Jackie.
“These rumors have persisted for so long, including claims that I hinder my child from having contact with their father. That is not true. I would never block a child from having a relationship with their dad,” Janet stated.
She also mentioned that throughout her long career, she has heard numerous unfounded rumors about herself.
One particularly odd rumor suggested that her niece Stevanna was actually her daughter because they resemble each other closely.
It’s important to mention that Janet has one child—her son, Issa, who was born in January 2017 with businessman Wissam Al Mana.
